PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, is a cosmetic procedure that uses blood plasma enriched with platelets. These platelets contain various growth factors that play an important role in cell regeneration and wound healing. In the PRP procedure, the patient’s blood is drawn and processed to separate the platelets from the red and white blood cells. This platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the area to be treated, such as the face, scalp, or joints.
Platelet-rich plasma is made up of two components: platelets, a type of blood cell that is crucial to overall bodily repair, and plasma, the liquid portion of blood. In addition to their well-known clotting properties, platelets also contain growth factors that can promote cell proliferation, encourage tissue regeneration, or hasten healing in the treated area. Simply said, platelet-rich plasma is blood that has more platelets than usual.
